The latest update to Gmail on Android comes with a new search filter. You can now sort your messages by relevance or date. Enough to find an email much more quickly!

Our mailboxes are full of messages, to the point that it is sometimes difficult to navigate. So, of course, it is possible to mark certain emails as favorites, but again these tend to accumulate. Fortunately, there is a search system, allowing messages to be sorted according to the sender, the recipient, the subject, the words contained or excluded, the size or even the date. However, this requires manipulation and knowing precisely what you are looking for. Also, Google has decided to simplify things via a new search filter in its Gmail application on Android. This feature now allows users to sort email messages by relevance or date, displaying the most recent ones.

Search filters: sort the most recent or relevant results

Now, when searching in Gmail, users will see a sort filter appear just below the search bar. It will be possible to display “Most recent” or “Most relevant” emails. This means that, when searching the inbox, you will be able to display either the messages closest in time, or the emails deemed the most important, according to relevance criteria defined by Google.

Ranking by relevance is based on contextual elements, such as the content of emails or the frequency of exchanges with certain contacts. In any case, this new tool offers an easier way to quickly find specific information, with a simple tap of your finger. It is currently being deployed, so you may have to wait a little before you can take advantage of it. It seems that this new feature is available within the Gmail Android app version 2024.10.27.690767349.
