Assoc. Dr. Adem Keskin stated that ticks can transmit not only Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) disease, but also approximately 200 different diseases to humans and animals.
Ticks, which cause many bacterial infections, especially Lyme disease, especially target people with weak immunity. Stating that Lyme disease, which is frequently seen in the USA and Europe, is also seen in Turkey, Keskin emphasized that this bacterium can lead to misdiagnoses by imitating diseases such as MS. Keskin also warned citizens against tick bites, pointing out that if left untreated, it could damage heart valves and brain tissue.
“IT MAY CAUSE VERY SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS”
Assoc. Prof. from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. Dr. Adem Keskin stated that the perception that ticks only cause Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is wrong and said, “Ticks can transmit approximately 200 diseases to humans and animals. Although not all of these diseases are fatal, some of them can cause serious complications, so great care should be taken.” .
“HIGH AMOUNT OF BORRELIA BACTERIA WERE FOUND IN DOMESTIC TICKS”
Keskin stated that Lyme disease, which is frequently seen in America and Europe, is also seen in our country; “He stated that Lyme disease is caused by the Borrelia bacteria, and that the bacteria can remain silent in the body and cause serious health problems in the future. Keskin also emphasized that in the studies carried out in the field for this disease, which is rare in Turkey, large amounts of Borrelia bacteria were found in local ticks.
A BACTERIAL DISEASE
Emphasizing that Lyme disease is also a bacterial disease, Assoc. Dr. Keskin said, “A bacterium we call spirochete causes that disease. According to official records, there are approximately 30 thousand confirmed cases in America every year. The estimated number of cases is much higher than this, some sources state that the number of cases has increased to approximately 500 thousand.”
It is easy for experienced physicians to catch/detect the disease in the early stages. Of course, it is especially easy if there is a history of tick bites. A symptom we call erythema migrans develops. If you see this, you immediately raise a question mark directly related to Lyme.
