German survival game on Steam now lets you breed and pet animals and has 5 times more players

The successful German survival game Enshrouded received its biggest update to date on November 5th. The focus is also on taming and breeding animals. Many players seem to like this, as the game now has almost 40,000 players per day.

Why is the update special? The update, called “Souls of the Frozen Frontier,” brought with it a wide range of new content and changes, making it Enshrouded’s largest update to date.

In addition to an increase in the maximum level, the expansion of the game world as well as new dynamic weather conditions and a new biome, new animals also found their way into the world of survival success – and bring with them features that were often requested by the community.

What features are these? These animals should not only make the game world more lively, but should also be tamable and represent a major focus of the update. For example, you can now keep cats and dogs in a variety of colors as pets. If you pet your pet, you will receive buffs – just like in real life.

Additionally, it is now possible to tame non-hostile animals and house them in your base. If you give them enough food and shelter, they will have offspring after a while, which will allow you to set up your own breeding system.

First increase in players since top form after release

What are the numbers after the update? These innovations seem to have hit a nerve with a particularly large number of players. Since the update was released, player numbers have steadily increased and are now at a new 24-hour high of 38,053 (as of November 11th at 10:30 a.m., according to steamdb.info) players, an increase of almost 463% in comparison corresponds to the previous month. This means that Enshrouded currently has around 5 times more players than in the past few months.

The data from steamdb.info shows a significant increase in players after the update. (As of November 11th at 10:30 a.m.)

The last time Enshrouded had such a significant increase in players was its release on January 24th. At that time, the survival hit recorded a peak of 160,405 players. Since then there has not been a significant increase in the number of players, which suggests that the innovations are well received by the community.

However, animal breeding isn’t the only feature the community wants. Enshrouded’s players even submitted so many suggestions for improvements and requests that the development team had to put the brakes on: Enshrouded has 2 million players on Steam, with 2,600 suggestions for improvement – that’s enough for the developers now
