Football: Ed Sheeran watched Ipswich’s first Premier League win in 22 years: ‘Give us happiness’

It was 22 years since Ipswich last won a game in the Premier League. Even nicer for Sheeran was that the team won in the red and pink away kit, the third variant the club uses, which he helped design. He became a sponsor of the match venue in 2021 and has bought into part of the club.

– We wore the third place, the one he helped design, so it was nice. Maybe he gave us some happiness, says coach Kieran McKenna according to the BBC.

Sheeran slipped into the locker room to celebrate with the team.

“Important part of the club”

“He congratulated the lads, and everyone knows he’s been an important part of the club for the last few years with the support he gives us, so it was nice for him to be here,” McKenna said of Sheeran’s presence.

At the home opener against Liverpool, Sheeran helped serve pies.

Ipswich established the victory with two goals in the first half, where they were the better team and could hold out for the long-awaited win.

– It is a huge day for the supporters to see their club win in the Premier League against such a fantastic club as Tottenham, in a stadium like this against a team like this, continues McKenna.
