The MMORPG Throne and Liberty was released on Steam: PS5 and Xbox more than a month ago. Players have now complained about the way the dungeons run. Amazon explains how they want to solve the problem, or rather, how they won’t solve it.
What bothers players about the dungeons? The problem is that queues break down too often because some players don’t accept the invitation to the dungeon.
The player Darkness explains the problem on a Polish MMORPG site: People sign up for the “random” dungeon search in Throne and Liberty because there are bonus rewards: But they don’t want to play a random dungeon, just particular. So they reject the dungeons that don’t suit them – and that frustrates everyone else.
An additional problem is that players can only play a limited number of dungeons per day – this is where the “Pay2Win” oriented MMORPG design, as is common in South Korea, becomes noticeable.
Amazon announces penalties for leavers
This is how Amazon wants to solve the problem: Amazon says it understands the queue issues. To solve the problem, they will introduce a “rejoin” timer and impose penalties on players who frequently reject such invites.
Amazon understands what you want – but you don’t get it
Should dungeons be more generous? This is currently not planned. It’s understandable that players want more Salvation Essence as a reward from the dungeons, but you have to be careful and pay attention to the balance here. The tokens should be rare and valuable.
Will you be able to run more dungeons soon? Here too there is a no from Amazon. There are no plans for that. However, there are plans to introduce a dungeon that offers higher replayability.
Free2Play design rears its ugly head
That’s what lies behind it: These are just the problems for which South Korean MMORPGs are frowned upon. A targeted reduction in what you can achieve in a week in order to make the game more grindy, more frustrating for the players and also more profitable for the developers.
When Amazon then says: “Yes, this should feel rare and valuable,” it sounds a bit cynical.
With such a system it is clear that players are looking for their personal, maximum advantage and do not go into every random dungeon if they only have a few options per day but want to optimize their rewards: The 12 best free-to-play -MMORPGs 2024 in comparison
