The number of victims of the devastating floods and landslides in South Africa continued to rise on Thursday. Authorities say at least 341 people have died and more than 40,000 have suffered varying degrees of loss as a result of the natural disaster.
The devastation is concentrated in the port city of Durban and the surrounding province of KwaZulu-Natal.
More than 300 people have died in Durban alone.
The rains that whipped Durban and its environs were the strongest in 60 years. The port of Durban, the most important in sub-Saharan Africa, has had to close.
The roads leading to the city are also badly damaged.
