International Tourism Forum vital economy sector in 2023 added value

(Finance) – In 2023, the tourism Italian continued its growth, reconfirming itself as the leading sector of the Italian economy. According to data processed byUniversity of Rome “Tor Vergata”in fact, by virtue of one tourist spending record equal to 155 billion euroslast year the sector generated an added value of 368 billion euros, equal to approximately 18% of GDP considering the direct and indirect economic value with significant induced effects on investments and employment.

In particular, national tourism spending has a multiplier effect of 2.5generating an overall added value of 250 billion eurosequal to 12% of GDP; whereas, however, international tourist spending has a multiplier effect of 1.65 on added value, resulting in an increase equal to 6% of GDP, smaller than that generated by national spending, but equally significant. Furthermore, total tourism expenditure generates or supports approx 50 jobs for every million euros spent.

This is made known by Ministry of Tourism during the first day of the second International Tourism Forumpromoted and organized by the ministry.

“We have paid a lot of attention to the South, which in 2024 is growing more than double compared to the North, also thanks to tourism – the Minister of Tourism also added Daniela Santanchè during his opening speech –. In fact, compared to an expenditure that represents 20% of total presences, in the South there is an increase in added value, entirely attributable to the effect of tourism growth, equal to approximately 15% of GDP”.
