It was Gefle that had the best starting position, while Östersund and Sundsvall in particular were other teams that risked direct relegation.
After just over half an hour, Yacqub Finey dribbled forward nicely and fired a shot that, however, went straight at goalkeeper Mathias Nilsson who dropped the ball in to make it 1-0 for Sundsvall, who then passed Gefle and placed in the qualifying spot.
Shortly after Sundsvall scored 2-0 on penalties, however, Gefle got hope when Brage scored 1-0 against Östersund. In that situation, it was Östersund who had left the Superettan.
Östersund’s goal in the 89th minute turned everything around
Östersund frantically chased an equalizing goal against Brage. After Mykola Musolitin shot the post Philip Bonde found a position a short time later and made it 1-1 in the 89th minute and wild scenes of joy unfolded in Östersund.
The players in Gefle had to wait a couple of minutes before it was clear that Östersund-Brage ended 1-1 and the negative outcome was clear. Irritated Geflefans showed their displeasure after the exit and lingered in the stands.
Gefle and Skövde go out immediately, while Sundsvall and Östersund have to qualify to stay in the Superettan.
– We were clearly better and will stay in the present and win the qualifier, says Giffarna’s Ludvig Svanberg, who scored the penalty that made it 2-0 in front of the jubilant home fans.
