According to the United States, the extremist organization Hamas is no longer welcome in Qatar, a senior official source tells the news agency Reuters.
The demand is based on the ceasefire proposal rejected by Hamas in recent weeks. Negotiations that began in mid-October ended without results after Hamas refused a temporary ceasefire.
– After repeated rejections of proposals [Hamasin] leaders should not be welcome in the capital of any US ally, the source said.
According to a Reuters source, Qatar informed the leadership of Hamas about the US demand about ten days ago.
Hamas representatives deny claims that the organization is no longer welcome in the country. Qatar has so far not commented on the claims.
Qatar, the United States and Egypt have acted as mediators in the ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. So far, negotiations on an end to the fighting and a hostage agreement have not yielded results.
