The collection, with paintings by, among others, Grünewald, Hjertén and Osslund, is intended to furnish rooms when the Carolina Rediviva library is to be refreshed.
The university receives donations from time to time – but calls this one unique.
– This is too good to be true, I thought when I heard it, says Maria Berggren, head of the department for special collections.
The university was able to fulfill Peter Renzo Gamba’s most important requirements.
– Me and my wife, who unfortunately is no longer alive, have always wanted the collection to be intact. Now it will be, he says.
