Earlier this year, four people were sentenced for the murder of a 22-year-old man in Helsingborg in May 2020.
Three of the perpetrators received life imprisonment and the fourth was sentenced to 11 years and nine months in prison.
Now all are acquitted by the Court of Appeal.
– For a conviction, it is required that it is established beyond reasonable doubt that the accused did what the prosecutor claims. And decisive for the Court of Appeal’s assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient for this, says the court’s chairman, Court of Appeal Councilor Björn R. le Grand.

The police were on site at Ebba Pettersson’s private school in Västra Frölunda in Gothenburg during the morning due to a suspected illegal threat.
It concerns a high school teacher who was recently fired after the person expressed strong views against democracy and ethnic groups on Tiktok.
– A week ago, we terminated the employment of a substitute teacher after expressing strong opinions. After the conclusion, the person expressed verbal threats against the school, says the school’s principal Ulrika Kragner.
– Students discovered this on social media and were incredibly scared. Yesterday I chose to report the incident to the police.
During the day, the school management informed guardians about the incident, who were allowed to pick up the students if they wanted. Older students have been able to go home by themselves.
– Probably 90 percent of the students have chosen to go home during the morning. I understand that they can experience it as very hateful and insecure. We care about our students and have taken action, says Ulrika Kragner.
The police have picked up a person for questioning.
In 2011, a then 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murdering his mother with an ax in Växjö.
The charges against him were dropped a few months later.
In 2023, he was arrested again on suspicion of the same murder, when new evidence had emerged.
However, he was acquitted in the district court earlier this year, which was appealed by prosecutors and a relative of the woman.
Now he is also acquitted in the Court of Appeal.
– The Court of Appeal makes the same assessment as the district court and considers that the investigation is not strong enough for it to be proven that the man killed the woman, says the court’s chairman, Court of Appeal Councilor Christer Ganelind.
The son has denied the murder throughout the years.
