8,119 deaths have been confirmed by the UN in the first six months of the war in Gaza. About 70 percent of them are women and children, according to a report from the UN, writes AFP.
“A systematic violation of the basic principles of international humanitarian law,” says the UN’s human rights department in a statement.
The youngest victim was reportedly one day old. A total of 44 percent of those killed are children, with those between the ages of five and nine making up the largest group.
Israel has also used white phosphorus on at least 24 occasions in attacks during the war, which is prohibited to use under the law of war, writes TT with reference to the human rights organization OHCHR.
“The actions of the Israeli forces have caused unprecedented levels of killing, injury, starvation and disease,” they write.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, over 34,500 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7.
