(Finance) – The Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS), approved a new substantial package of proposals for the allocation of financial resources for territorial cohesion.
The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, expressed great satisfaction: “These are strategic interventions for the territories because the economic development, growth and competitiveness of the productive fabric are strengthened by combining investments and territorial cohesion, exactly as the Government intended to do today, thanks to the work of Minister Fitto , financing strategic interventions in particular for Campania, Umbria and Lampedusa”.
In order to follow up on the Agreement signed by the Prime Minister and the President of the Campania Region last 17 September, today CIPESS – we read in the note – approved the proposal for the assignment of the residual FSC 21-27 quota, equal to 2 .2 billion euros, and complementary resources from the Revolving Fund, for a further 1.2 billion euros. With this assignment, which is added to the previous advances of the FSC 21-27 quotas already approved by the Committee, the framework of cohesion resources programmed for the territories of Campania is completed, allowing, in the coming years, to start investments in infrastructure, competitiveness of the production system and services to citizens for a total of 8.3 billion euros.
Furthermore, in anticipation of the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi (1226-2026), the Government proposed and the Committee approved an allocation of FSC 21-27 resources equal to 80.5 million in favor of the Umbrian territories. The resources are intended to finance particularly strategic interventions for the redevelopment of places of worship and the strengthening of transport infrastructure within the Umbria region. In particular, the completion of the railway section of the Ferrovia Centrale Umbra was financed; the preparation of the cycle-pedestrian path of the Via di Francesco; the removal of architectural barriers at the Porta Nuova escalators in Assisi; the redevelopment aimed at the use of the Sacred Convent of Assisi and the garden of San Francesco; the design of the new Medioetruria high-speed station; the strengthening and modernization of the Umbria San Francesco di Assisi international airport. With this assignment, therefore, the Government intended to contribute to the celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint of Italy which will be held in 2026, in particular by encouraging the influx of the numerous pilgrims expected.
Furthermore, the assignment of FSC 21-27 resources takes on particular significance for 45 million euros approved in favor of the Municipality of Lampedusa and Linosa. The emergency situation that the island is called upon to face on a daily basis is well known and which the Government, with Legislative Decree 124/2023, intended to take charge of, providing, among other things, for the financing of an infrastructure investment plan aimed at improving the lives of island citizens. The Plan, prepared by the Municipality in synergy with the Department for Cohesion Policies and for the South of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, provides for the construction and extraordinary maintenance of roads and other primary urbanization works, the construction of purification and management plants of waste water, the upgrading of the fuel depot, the construction of new public buildings including a school, the redevelopment and energy efficiency of existing buildings. The new equipment is added to that of 20 million of FSC 14-20 already approved previously, currently being implemented, for a total investment of 65 million.
