(Finance) – The joint general assembly of Confindustria Bergamo and Confindustria Brescia, hosted in the new logistics area of the airport Milan Bergamooffered the opportunity to recall theand possible synergies in air transport. He did it Giovanni Sanga, president of Sacbo, the management company of the Bergamo airport, who spoke at the opening of the meeting to underline how the National Airport Plan provides that the Brescia-Montichiari airport, previously located in the north-eastern network, is part of the Lombardy integrated airport system.
“But above all Lombardywith what it represents, expresses a capacity deficit – said Sanga – And if we have capacity reserves, airport infrastructures that can be relaunched in a virtuous process of growth and development, we have the duty to put them back into play and enhance them. Today it would be short-sighted not to think together. It is the future that takes us there: I hope it is a very near future.” A hand extended to Brescia per a possible agreement to redesign the balance of the Lombard skies. An invitation accepted by Franco Gussalli Beretta, president of Confindustria Brescia. “Even our airport, like that of Bergamo, can lead to development – he underlined – Its evolution is not completely in our hands, but if it became one of the points of contact between the two provinces and Sacbo were to take leadership, I believe that there could be great growth. Sacbo is currently focusing on the passenger side, while Montichiari has great potential on courier traffic: it could be another starting point, in addition to those already planned for the development of the two territories. By working together, perhaps we can take this airport system towards new frontiers.”
It could be the first act of a new scenario in the north-east of Lombardy, where Milan Bergamo is preparing to exceed the quota of 17 million passengers in 2024.
“We invested 200 million of own resources in the last four years – recalled Giovanni Sanga – to adapt our infrastructures, including the expansion of the departures terminal, which will be equipped with advanced security control systems. By the end of next year we will complete the construction sites under our responsibility, in time for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. We have focused on multimedia, combining airport traffic with territorial connection networks, from road mobility to rail mobility, which will allow train travel between Milan station and the nascent Orio terminus. The new challenges are sustainability, digitalisation and artificial intelligence”.
