Is Rey’s return saved after all?

Star Wars fans suffered a severe setback just a few weeks ago. It was reported that Steven Knight, who was hired as a screenwriter for Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order, will no longer be involved in the project. That put a huge question mark on Rey Skywalker’s (Daisy Ridley) next big screen adventure.

However, fans can now perhaps breathe a sigh of relief again. Because the star saga has hired a new author. However, it is not entirely clear whether this will also save Rey’s future.

X-Men author Simon Kinberg to develop Star Wars trilogy

As Deadline exclusively reports, Simon Kinberg has been attached as screenwriter and producer three Star Wars films committed to representing a trilogy. While it’s not entirely clear exactly which films these are supposed to be, Deadline suspects that the trilogy Star Wars 10 to 12 includes. That would be the Rey film New Jedi Order, as well as two related sequels.

According to Deadline, other insider sources suspect that this is a completely new Star Wars trilogy could act. This would mean that Kinberg’s films would join the long list of announced spin-offs that have so far been shared by other filmmakers such as James Mangold, Taika Waiti, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Donald Glover.

Kinberg is no stranger to the Star Wars cosmos. Among other things, he acted as co-creator of the animated series Star Wars Rebels and worked as a consultant for JJ Abrams’ Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story he is also mentioned in the acknowledgments.

Marvel fans in particular should pay attention to Kinberg’s name. The filmmaker was responsible for the scripts for the X-Men films The Last Stand, Future is Past, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix and Fantastic Four, among others.

When is Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order coming to cinemas?

Whether Kinberg was actually hired as the new writer and producer for Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order or whether he is actually developing a completely new Star Wars trilogy remains to be seen. After Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson and Steven Knight, Kinberg would be the one fourth author for the film.

Disney and Lucasfilm’s original schedule had called for the Rey film on December 17, 2026 is coming to German cinemas. It is currently unclear whether this date can be kept due to production difficulties.
