But what’s good about that? Sci-fi fans will undoubtedly have to be patient. In fact, there is a positive reason for the delay for cinema lovers: Bong’s film will also be shown in IMAX format and thus enable an even more bombastic screen experience. In the IMAX system, high-resolution images are presented on larger walls. However, the organizational effort obviously takes some time.
Incidentally, the postponement could be understood as an expression of trust: the previous date in January is during a period in which cinemas traditionally do not expect large numbers of viewers. It is therefore predestined for productions that promise comparatively little success. In other words, some films seem there to be dumped like in a garbage dump. The fact that Mickey 17 has now moved a few weeks into the middle of the year speaks for a change of mind.
Mickey 17 is about Mickey (Pattinson), who has been hired as a so-called “Expendable” for a spaceship crew: If he dies, a new clone is simply produced with stored memories. So he has to always take on the most dangerous tasks. But when he finally comes face to face with an active clone alive, the situation threatens to get out of hand.
