Christian “Fimpen” Eklund shows American TV blunders

We are used to referring to him as Christian “Fimpen” Eklund, ice hockey player.
But in the US, NHL pro William Eklund’s father is better known as Christian “Simpson” Eklund, YouTuber.

During his ten seasons in Djurgården was Christian Eklund47, a hard-working forward with a self-sacrificing style of play. He showed club heart and was immensely popular with the fans. After his career, “Fimpen” has become a bit of a celebrity on social media and his program “Fimpen’s journey” has received millions of views on Youtube.

The ESPN reporter’s blunder

Eklund also has two hockey-playing sons named William22, and Victor18, who plays for the San José Sharks and Djurgården. His oldest son went seventh overall in the 2021 NHL draft after having several strong senior seasons in Djurgården in the SHL.

Now “Fimpen” shows how the American TV reporter Emily Kaplanwho covers the NHL for ESPN, chose to introduce him after she learned that William Eklund had a famous father in his native Sweden.
“Christian Simpson Eklund, YouTuber. When they in the North American media would tell you that William, who has just been drafted, has a “famous” father. Of course they miss a 20-year hockey career. They have left their mark on the other side of the pond,” he writes on Instagram.

Missed Eklund’s hockey career

A little sourly, he writes that the Americans, in their research, missed that he played professional hockey for 20 years. Instead chose to focus on his career choices in recent years, when he has been an influencer, YouTuber and hockey expert on television and on social media. Christian “Fimpen” Eklund’s followers on Instagram thought the whole thing very entertaining. Several write funny comments about Kaplan’s misstep.

“Have you played hockey?”, someone asks ironically, to which Eklund replies: “Played and played.” I have belonged to teams”.
“Typical Yankee, misses a 2-decade long hockey career. Sabbar one’s nickname, replacing it with a new one. And on top of that, they can’t speak Swedish,” comments another.
“Hahaha dax changing your name Fimpen Simpson isn’t so bad, is it? Oh, we in Sweden haven’t missed your hockey career, but what is an NHL career compared to being a legend in Djurgårn? The NHL weighs lightly in that comparison,” says a third.

“We in the Djurgård family love you in any case,” writes one fan.
“We love you Simpson,” commented another.
“Same hairstyle as Homer!”, someone quips.

Nice to be noticed abroad, “Fimpen”. Even if you now got a new nickname. That can happen sometimes.
