Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, according to state Chinese media. He hopes for peaceful coexistence, respect and cooperation between the two.

Xi emphasizes, according to CCTV, that China wants a stable relationship and that history shows that both countries benefit from cooperation, but lose from confrontation. According to Xi, the outside world also wants to see such a relationship.

Trump has threatened to impose hefty tariffs on goods from China. Xi, quite expectedly, does not comment that. The two countries must strengthen dialogue and find a proper way to work with each other, according to Xi.
