Pokémon TCG Pocket players have reportedly discovered a trick to get rarer cards for free

Pokémon TCG Pocket (in German: Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket) is just under a week old and there is already a theory as to how players can get better cards. Apparently you have to pay attention to the appearance of the booster packs in order to draw rare cards.

What is Pokémon TCG Pocket? Pokémon TCG Pocket is a mobile game in which Pokémon trading cards can be collected digitally. It is similar to Pokémon TCG Live, but is a lighter version and focuses on the collecting aspect.

The game itself is free; Two booster packs with five cards each can be opened per day. Trainers can also spend real money for more openings.

The kink in the booster packs is said to be in the bowl

How do you recognize the better booster packs? When players open booster packs, they have a choice of multiple packs in the circle. The packs all have the same motif (Pikachu, Mewto or Charizard), but all have slightly different creases and folds.

It is precisely the creases and folds that are intended to provide an indication of what kind of cards are inside. A crease or crease is meant to mean that there is at least one rare card in the pack.

At least this theory is represented by the Japanese player Jedis_tm on X. He was still cautious because the method doesn’t work every time.

How do the players react? Pokémon TCG Pocket players are conflicted. Some claim that it increased their chances of getting rare cards, others say the exact opposite.

X-User SoulSurVGC also initially mocked the theory and labeled it a “playground rumor.” However, a short time later he posted that the theory was correct, at least for him:

The players also argue about what exactly needs to be paid attention to. According to one group it is the creases at the top edge, according to others the slightly thicker looking packs are the better ones.

Is the theory correct? It’s difficult to say whether X-User Jedis_tm is right. At least there is no comprehensible evidence of the trick. It works for some players, but fails for others.

Even though Pokémon TCG Pocket is only a few days old, fans of the franchise are already excited. Our author Jasmin Beverungen thinks the game is a success: The new Pokémon trading card game does almost everything better than the original from before and doesn’t even cost anything
