First the blow that stunned the whole ping pong world.
Then a total overtaking of the world number one.
Anton Källberg is in the shape of his life.
– It is difficult to understand what just happened, he says after 3-0 in the set against China’s Wang Chuqin.
Just getting to meet the world’s best table tennis players is something to brag about. To give him one more match like that.
But Anton Källberg wasn’t satisfied with that. The 27-year-old Swede drove over Wang Chuqin complete in the World Tour event in Frankfurt, winning the Round of 16 in three straight sets, 11–8, 11–5, 11–6.
– I don’t know what to say. Of course, I’m a little overwhelmed by how I played today. I am so satisfied with my game, from the first ball to the end, says Källberg in the victory interview on WTT’s YouTube channel.

For Wang, it is not the first time this year that a Swede has set the hook. During this summer’s Olympics in Paris, there was a certain Truls Möregårdh who on the way to his silver medal defeated the Chinese world star.

Källberg made big headlines in Frankfurt already after the last round. That time there were clips from his match ball against the Egyptian Omar Assar viral, then Källberg decided by switching hands on his racket at the last moment and brazenly hitting the winning stroke with his left hand.
And after Wednesday’s crushing victory against Wang Chuqin, Anton Källberg has a hard time taking in what he did.
– It’s always something huge to face the world number one. And to be able to challenge him and to play so well, it’s something I’ve dreamed of since I was little. This is a big moment for me, says Källberg.
