Viktor Gyökeres scored three goals for his Sporting against Manchester City itself in the Champions League.
After the crazy display, the Swede was still a little dissatisfied.
– We could score more goals if I’m honest, he says after the match.
Only one Swede has managed the feat before. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored four goals in PSG’s 5-0 win against Anderlecht on 23 October 2013. It took eleven years before Viktor Gyökeres26, ensured that yet another player from Sweden scored at least three goals in a Champions League match.
Gyökeres won against Haaland
In advance, probably no one thought that the reigning Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon would be able to challenge Manchester City themselves, led by Pep Guardiolaaway. The new Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim made his last home game as Sporting manager, against his new derby rival, and he got a finish called enough.

Amorim led his team to an impressive 4-1 victory against City and Viktor Gyökeres scored three of the goals. In the 38th minute, he first equalized at 1-1 by chipping the ball over Ederson in the goal. The other two goals came on penalties. Manchester City also received a penalty in the match, but the Norwegian Erling Braut Haaland pulled it in the crossbar.
3-0 for Gyökeres in the battle against Haaland for who is the hottest striker in the Nordics. 3-0 to Sweden against Norway.
– Of course, it’s always fun to score goals, and even better to score a hat-trick. It was an amazing feeling. But the most important thing was that we won the match, says Gyökeres in the official interview afterwards.
The Swede’s words after his hat-trick
It is easy to believe that everything is peace and joy after an effort like this. Just the fact that Sporting beat Manchester City with such convincing numbers is a great triumph. But many want more. Gyökeres was not completely satisfied with “only” having scored four goals in total. He thought Sporting should have scored more.
– We knew it would be tough and we didn’t start well. We knew they would give us space, and we could score more goals to be honest. They could also score more goals, he says.

After yesterday’s victory, Gyökeres has scored five goals in four games in the Champions League. He leads the scoring league together with Bayern Munich’s Harry Kanebut since he also made an assist, he leads the overall scoring league. The Swede has already managed to score 23 goals in all competitions this year for his Sporting. Add to that four goals for Sweden in the Nations League so far. He is really hot!
The question is whether Viktor Gyökeres beats last year’s season when he scored 43 goals for the club? If he is allowed to remain in Portugal for the rest of the year, there is much that speaks for it.
