In the last three years, men have been at home less and less when the children have been sick, and the trend is now reaching record levels. Wabbing fathers have not been so few since 2016.
Instead, it’s the mothers who vacillate more and more. In all income and occupational groups, mothers take the most maternity leave, this is shown by figures from Försäkringskassan as the news site Newsworthy has produced.
The exception is in families where the woman earns more than the man – where the father takes a larger part of the days.
Peaked during the football World Cup
But during the summer of 2006, almost twenty years ago, the concern skyrocketed, when almost every second, over 40 percent of all fathers stayed at home with sick children – then the World Cup in soccer was played.
But during the summer of 2006, almost twenty years ago, the vabband skyrocketed. During the months of June and July, close to every other, over 40 percent of all fathers were at home with sick children – at the same time as the World Cup in soccer.
The band then peaked in Kumla, Lekeberg and Hallsberg.
The high figure, on the other hand, persists in the Småland urban area of Markaryd. Almost every other father is there, 45 percent at home with their sick children – and thus tops the vabb list. The fathers in Bjurholm, Gnesta and Färgelanda share a joint second place of 44 percent.
In Värmland, more specifically in Årjäng, there are the least vagrant fathers. There, less than one in three men are at home when the children are sick. In joint second place come three Laplanders: Arvidsjaur, Malå and Arjeplog with 32 percent.
