This year Kevin Costner made his big dream come true of his own epic western saga in the cinema. With Horizon, the first part of his four-film series started on the big screen, for which he even left out the hit series Yellowstone. However, while the critics had few good words for the drama, the audience only followed suit and with around 38 million US dollars worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), it was far from achieving the desired result.
As a result, part 2 of the series was recently postponed in the USA, so that it will not find its way into cinemas in Germany until next year. It is all the more astonishing that the Horizon series is now apparently expanded by another part should be.
Kevin Costner’s Western saga Horizon is set to get its own documentary
As the reliable industry newsletter Puck writes, a documentary is currently being planned, which goes behind the scenes of Costner’s epic western saga. This is supposed to be developed by Costner’s WME, but I haven’t found a streaming service yet. According to Puck, HBO’s in-house streamer Max, who also offers the first Horizon part for streaming in the USA, has expressed interest in the project.

This would mean that Costner’s Horizon saga would have at least one more film after part 2 – even if it is not the one the actor and director initially planned. Filming for Horizon 3 and 4 is said to have started in May of this year, but has now had to be paused. The future of the saga is uncertain.
Horizon 2 was originally scheduled to hit German cinemas on November 7, 2024. The new cinema release of the western sequel is now scheduled for six months later in this country, on April 4, 2025 scheduled. It is still unclear when the Horizon documentary will be released.
