Helsingborg bakers made Malmö FF cake – it was not appreciated by the local politician
Thores bakery in Helsingborg published a picture on Facebook on Friday of a cake with a motif congratulating Malmö FF on their 24th SM gold.
The picture was not appreciated by everyone – one comment that stood out came from a local politician in Helsingborg, Tonka Frodlund (S).
“Sulthandlat… I am HIF”, wrote Frondlund, among other things, in the comment.
When South Sweden contacted her, Frodlund stuck to his words.
– I’m not going to buy from someone who likes MFF when I’m a citizen of Helsinki. That’s just the way it is. And if you don’t buy, it’s probably a boycott. You have to take a stand in life, and HIF are sacred to me. I am far from Malmö, she told the newspaper.
Didn’t want to apologize – chose to leave
The Social Democrats in Helsingborg then chose to act.
– When this happened last Friday, we spoke to her quite immediately. We asked her to apologize and take back what she said, but she didn’t want to do that, says Björn Holgersson, political secretary in the party.
Tonka Frodlund was then given a choice: to either leave her duties or apologize.
She chose to leave.
– This is not a question of a bakery going out and saying that HIF can tighten the barrel. But they have done a job for a customer, that job was successful and then the bakery posted a picture on their social media. Then it is not reasonable that as a representative in the Social Democrats, you go out and say things like this and call for a boycott.
Frodlund is now leaving his roles as vice chairman of the municipality’s election board and as a substitute in the Social Democrats’ local party board. However, she remains a member of the municipal council.
– She is adamant that she thinks she has done the right thing and I can respect that, but it does not go together with being elected representative for the Social Democrats. We also wanted her to leave the municipal council, but she has chosen not to do that, says Holgersson and continues:
– I have been involved in politics for many years, both as a political official and as a reporter, and I have never witnessed anything like this.
Frodlund’s answer: “HIF in my heart”
Since Frodlund did not want to apologize to the bakery, the chairman of the Social Democrats in Helsingborg, Maria Ward, took it upon herself to do so on Monday.
– It was a good conversation from what I understood it to be. He is of course shocked and I can understand that.
Björn Holgersson says that many have contacted the party with different opinions about the incident.
– People have come forward and demanded that we exclude her from the party. It is not relevant at all. But politics is a team game and then one player cannot do as little as he wants.
– Somewhere Tonka knows about it too.
Frodlund has chosen not to comment on the incident to TV4 Nyheterna. In another text message South Sweden she replied that she is leaving the mentioned assignments but remains in the council.
And ends with the words:
“HIF in my heart”.
