The police’s security zone in Hageby in Norrköping made it only marginally more difficult for criminals to commit violent crimes, according to the police’s own evaluation.
The safety zone was the first in Sweden. It was imposed on June 5 after a double homicide linked to gang crime and ended two weeks later.
The evaluation shows that residents felt more secure in the meantime, due to the fact that there were more police officers on site. No serious violent crimes were committed during the period, but it cannot be said that this was due to the security zone.
In total, the police made 380 body searches. Most of those who were searched were men and some were searched several times. 44 cars were searched. No firearms or explosives were found. A “small amount” of drugs and a knife were seized, but those seizures are not linked to gang crime.
