After consumption of mushrooms, usually within the first 24 hours; Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, blurred vision, flushing on the face and neck, metallic taste in the mouth, fever, palpitations, and abdominal pain are observed. “As a result of mushroom poisoning, nervous system, liver and kidney functions may be affected and poisoning may result in death,” he said.

Expert stated that the most important way to protect against mushroom poisoning is not to consume mushrooms that grow in nature. Dr. Filiz Bolu said, “Cultivated mushrooms can be preferred instead. When buying cultivated mushrooms, packaged ones should be preferred and attention should be paid to whether the packaging contains labels informing the consumer. It should not be forgotten that the environments where even cultivated mushrooms grow may contain some microorganisms, and consuming mushrooms contaminated with microorganisms may cause gastrointestinal complaints. If mushrooms growing in nature are eaten, when symptoms of poisoning occur, the nearest health institution should be consulted without delay. “When the person goes to the hospital, taking some of the mushrooms he ate, if any, will inform the doctor about the toxin,” he said.
