Drove a school bus into the ditch outside Luleå – the driver is charged

It was on October 23 that the traffic accident occurred on Bergnäset. The bus was loaded with several school children, but no one was physically injured after the derailment.

Stina Löfdahl, whose 10-year-old daughter was on the bus, told SVT that she spoke to the driver.

– He was shocked and said he had fallen asleep twice, she said then.

After the accident, the bus company Nobina was fired and a new operator now operates the route.

The driver denies wrongdoing

A report of gross negligence in traffic was drawn up and now prosecutors have filed charges and the criminal classification has been toned down to the normal level.

In questioning, the driver, a man in his 70s, denied any wrongdoing. The prosecutor leans his evidence on, among other things, a testimony and a technical examination which shows that there were no defects in the vehicle.

Suspected of further crimes

The same driver is suspected of the same crime on October 11 when he allegedly also drove a school bus into the ditch. That time at the Ears.

In that case, the prosecutor requests daily fines of a total of SEK 20,000.
