Police warning: The elderly are being deceived by fake police officers
In recent times, the police have issued several different warnings to the public. At the end of September, the police went out and warned especially the elderly about fake police officers.
In Gävle and Sandviken, several pensioners had been visited by people who pretended to be from the police, and then asked for bank or credit cards.
– If someone comes from the police and asks for a bank or credit card, there are many indications that it is not the police authority that is there, said Roland Komaromithe police spokesperson to P4 Gävleborg when.

Fraud alarms follow each other: “Social manipulation”
On several occasions during the past autumn, the police have also warned of various types of fraud. The criminal profits for investment fraud in 2023 were a whopping SEK 2.3 billion. The same figure for telephone fraud was SEK 708 million and for card fraud without a physical card SEK 344 million.

Frauds where one or more people pretend to be a company or authority succeeded in collecting SEK 329 million during the last year.
“Frauds that increase in both number and criminal profits are frauds through social manipulation. The victim is manipulated into sending money away or committing some wrongdoing,” has Lotta Mauritzson from the National Fraud Center said in one press release from the police.

Breaks car windows and snatches fuel cards
Now the police’s warning applies to something completely different: thefts from cars.
At the end of October, the police in Mitt announced that several thefts of fuel cards had taken place in Västerås in just one week. “In most cases, the perpetrators have broken windows on the cars and then stolen fuel cards. The thefts, about ten, have in most cases taken place at Ängsgärdet,” the police write in a press release.

The police write that it is mainly businesses that have been affected, but still want other car owners to be aware of the thefts.
A few days later, the police in Gästrikland report that 22 car break-ins have been reported in less than a month. The thefts have mainly taken place in company cars, the police write.

The police: Avoid theft – park here
Because of the thefts, the police are now urging the public not to leave valuables in the car and to be careful with their fuel card.
“To avoid being the victim of theft, you can think of parking in lighted places, among other things,” the police write in the press release “Several break-ins in company cars”.

If you are unable to park in a lighted space, the police recommend that you park in a garage. Below the page “Theft of and from motor vehicles” the police write down several things you can think of as a car owner.
One must, among other things, check that the car has really been locked before leaving it, store car keys in a safe place and supplement the car with an approved steering wheel crutch.
