On November 5, it is time for the much talked about US election, where it is between the Democrat and current Vice President Kamala Harris and the Republican and ex-President Donald Trump.
But why should you in Sweden care about politics in the USA? Well, according to US expert Oscar Winberg, whoever becomes the country’s president in the next four years can influence Sweden on several points.
For example, the two presidential candidates have different attitudes towards NATO; Harris wants to remain in the alliance while Trump has expressed his desire to leave.
– For Finland and Sweden, the two newest countries in the military alliance, it is an uncomfortable situation if, so soon after joining, you see that the main player leaves the field, says Oscar Winberg, and further believes that an American withdrawal from NATO would be able to set the wheels in motion for military cooperation in the Nordic region.
