What date is Black Friday 2024?
Black Friday 2024 does not officially have an official date or announcement as the event does not have a specific organizer. However, it is quite easy to predict when the next edition will fall, since the event follows a fairly simple calendar. The date of Black Friday always falls on the last Friday of November, after the Thanksgiving holidays in the United States.
Based on this principle, it is possible to predict the official date of Black Friday 2024 around Friday November 29, 2024. However, it is possible to find different offers now, as was the case during the previous edition, with several sites offering promotions labeled “Black Friday Week” or “previews”.
Black Friday hasn’t started yet this year. However, we suggest you find the best offers already available on several products. Cell phones, computers, AirPods, household appliances… It’s all there!
Which stores participate in Black Friday?
Black Friday is a commercial operation that can involve any business, physical or digital. In France, it is regularly possible to find the same participants every year. During previous editions of Black Friday, promotions were visible at certain brands such as Fnac, Darty, Boulanger, CDiscount, and many others. Certain specialized brands such as Zara, Électro Dépôt or Castorama also regularly participate in Black Friday.
Black Friday is an operation largely carried out by Amazon. The e-commerce giant often gives the green light to the operation by offering promotions from the beginning of November. Concerned about such a monopoly on the online economy, certain French brands launched a few years ago a response to Black Friday with promotions of “French Days“. Organized twice a year, this operation is now anchored as a “mini French-style Black Friday”.
What are the origins of Black Friday?
The tradition of Black Friday as we know it today dates back to the 50s and 60s. At the time, many retailers were offering a day punctuated by multiple promotions across several cities in the United States. The Philadelphia police then decided to use the expression “Black Friday” to describe this day which follows the Thanksgiving festivities. This name then allows the city police to anticipate this day as being very busy in terms of crowd movements and traffic jams.
The expression “Black Friday”, however, does not seem to suit traders who consider the name too pejorative. Several brands in the city of Philadelphia tried, in vain, to circulate the name “Big Friday” but without much success. It will ultimately be decided to give another origin to the name “Black Friday”: a day when traders come out of the economic deficit and therefore fill their account books with black ink rather than red.
The concept caught on and Black Friday quickly spread across the country in the late 1990s before reaching the rest of the globe thanks to e-commerce giants like Amazon. Nowadays, Black Friday even extends over several weeks with discounts that can be found until mid-December.
What is Cyber Monday, the last day of Black Friday?
Traditionally, Black Friday is followed by a final day of promotions called “Cyber Monday“. Although this tradition is not followed by all Black Friday participants, it allows certain merchants to offer final offers on different products. Without being reserved for online brands, Cyber Monday stands out more on the internet than in physical stores.
And for good reason: Cyber Monday primarily offers promotions on high-tech products. These can concern several types of offers. If you are looking for big discounts on laptopsvideo games or tablets, Cyber Monday can be the ultimate opportunity to get crazy
