Lassi Etelätalo, 36, who threw eighth in the Paris Olympics, still has the drive to continue his sports career.
Javelin thrower Lassi Etelätalo announced that his active career will continue. After the Olympic summer, Etelätalo, which has considered its continuation, has started training for next summer and the World Championships in Tokyo.
– I’m starting from the idea that it’s the last year of my career, Etelätalo said in a press release of the Finnish Sports Confederation (SUL) on Sunday.
– The World Cup is of course the number one goal, but it’s a long summer, Etelätalo referred to the summer’s other key competitions, such as the Diamond League competitions.
Etelätalo, 36, threw sixth at the European Championships in Rome last summer, won his event at the Kaleva Games and the Sweden match and was the best Finn in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics, eighth. He threw his season’s best 84.67 at the Kaleva Games in Vaasa.
Although the competition season was even, it left the 2022 European Championship medalist with a hunger that encouraged him to continue.
– There is enough motivation when last season was so good, but the Olympics still left me a little sad. I wasn’t able to measure the condition I felt I had that day, Etelätalo says.
