He has played in the world’s best league for 16 years and has both played with and against some of the sport’s biggest names ever.
Now Victor Hedman has taken out his absolute dream five with NHL players, but he chooses to poke himself.
– I start on the bench!, he says to SVT Sport.
Enough to Victor Hedman33, does not need much introduction considering what he has achieved so far in his career, but it bears repeating that the Swedish defender has won: World Cup gold (2017), double Stanley Cup (2020 and 2021), Norris Trophy ( the league’s best running back in 2018) and the Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoff MVP in 2020).
Fantastic players
During his years away in North America, Hedman has both met and played with some fantastic hockey players. When SVT Sport asked him to form his dream team consisting of five outfield players and a goalkeeper, the defender from Örnsköldsvik was faced with a big dilemma. After a while of thinking, he still selected a fairly sharp bunch.

– My dream five would look like this: Then I take players who have been active during my career over here. Forwards: Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherovhe says and continues:
– Slopes: Duncan Keith, Cale Makar and I finish Andrey Vasilevsky.
Victor Hedman himself feels quite satisfied with his squad building, but SVT’s reporter is shocked when he realizes that the Tampa Bay star has forgotten someone.

Leaving himself out
Victor Hedman thus chooses to poke himself from the dream team line-up. Something that surprises the reporter.
– No, but Duncan Keith, when I came up in my early years, he was damn good. I take him, but sit myself on the bench. I’ll start on the bench!, says Hedman and laughs.
It was nobly done by the two-time Stanley Cup champion, to say the least. Many had probably considered having him in their dream fives.
