Celebrity Italian Chef Explains the Best Way to Cut Pizza

To cut your pizza, would you rather use a knife, roulette or scissors? A pizzaiola has the answer.

Pizza is one of the most popular dishes in the world. And since the Italians did not agree on a single recipe, it seemed obvious that the rest of the world would not succeed either. Today there are dozens of pizza toppings and many ways to make it. Between Rome and Naples it’s mainly a story of dough but many countries now have their own pizza.

As with the recipe, there is no consensus on how to cut it, but the good thing about humans is that when they love, they don’t count. So much so that today even the utensils intended for cutting pizzas have multiplied: classic knife, pizza wheel, classic scissors and even pizza scissors, not to mention the machines used by manufacturers. But is there one that is better than the others?

For Italian chef Roberta, the answer is yes. On her TikTok account followed by several hundred thousand people, she even explains why all these utensils are not equal and according to the pizzaiola, a true star of social networks, it is not only a question of choosing the right tool but truly to respect the work of the pizza maker.

Contrary to what one might think, the pizza knife or pizza wheel “is not the best option” for cutting a pizza. According to chef Roberta, “the movement of the wheel crushes the dough, ruining the consistency and the texture. [les espaces vides qui se créent dans la pâte au moment de la cuisson] of our pizza, destroying the hours worked.”

But this would not be its only fault, since according to the expert the pizza wheel also “moves the ingredients when cutting” sometimes leaving slices of dough completely stripped of their toppings. The chef of the “Aroma Roma” restaurant concludes her video, viewed more than 6 million times, by indicating that “to maintain the consistency of the honeycomb and the toppings” it was “always” necessary to cut the pizza with scissors.
