The Finnish action film Sisu, in which a Gold diggers against a horde of Nazis starts. You can now stream the film by Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports – A Christmas Story) on Netflix, which takes you into the brutal goings-on in Lapland in 1944.
New on Netflix: That’s what the action film Sisu is about
In the far north of Finland, a gray-bearded man (Jorma Tommila) is digging in the earth. His only company on the plains of Lapland is an illicitly cute dog and a horse. One day his tireless pickaxe hits a vein of gold in the ground. He is rich. If there wasn’t a war raging around him, he could ride off into the sunset without a thought.
It is the Lapland War that raged across northern Finland in 1944. The Germans, former allies of the Finns, are to be driven out of the country on orders from the Soviet Union. They leave behind scorched earth, blown bridges, destroyed villages.
The man who rides through the vastness with his gold like a soldier of fortune in the Wild West encounters remnants of the SS. When they discover that he is transporting gold, they sense their chance: At home, according to the Obersturmführer (Aksel Hennie), they would be held accountable for their war crimes. The gold is their way out.
Why Sisu is not only worthwhile for Tarantino and Stallone fans
Sisu was already shown at the Sitges Film Festival in 2022, where it impressed with its sparse story, specifically Finnish influence and hard action. That is The film is reminiscent of Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo. Sisu also entertains worlds better than Sly’s last outing, Rambo: Last Blood. Nevertheless, the action film in the lowlands quickly develops into a very stubborn, taciturn beast. Just like his hero.
Sisu opened in German cinemas in May 2023 and is now streaming on Netflix for the first time. Alternatively, you can buy and rent the film from popular providers.
