A few months ago, the video game adaptation Fallout became one of the biggest series successes of the year on Amazon. However, the one produced for Apple TV+ is somewhat less well known Sci-Fi series Silo, which explores a similar setting. In contrast to the scattered Vault intrigue, Silo focuses entirely on the claustrophobic microcosm of a post-apocalyptic underground society with plenty of mysteries.
The film adaptation of Hugh Howey’s Silo novels returns with season 2 on November 15, 2024. In this article we’ll tell you why no sci-fi fan should miss the Apple TV series and have one for everyone who has already loved the first season short first impression of season 2.
Sci-fi dystopia with bunker society: Silo unleashes murder and intrigue 144 floors underground
That’s what Silo is all about: The air on the earth’s surface is toxic. The last 10,000 people live in a concrete colossus that descends 144 floors and is home to a vertical class society full of strict rules, total surveillance and even more secrets.
The gruff mechanic Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) gets to the bottom of these mysteries when she is unexpectedly appointed the new sheriff of the silo. This gives her the chance to solve the mysterious death of her friend – and to lure the puppet masters in power out of their reserve with uncomfortable questions.
The 10-part opening season of Silo was one of the biggest sci-fi surprises of 2023. The mix of social dystopia, detective thriller and paranoia thriller boasted breathtaking visuals, captivating worldbuilding and a claustrophobic atmosphere. Diving into countless secrets and shocking revelations offered first-class entertainment for science fiction fans.
But now the big question: Is Silo Season 2 also worth it? And can it maintain the high level of the first season? Before I answer these questions, however, I must first issue a spoiler warning. If we want to talk about the sequel, we can’t avoid the huge twist from season 1.

Silo becomes Silos and delights in season 2 as a suspense thriller in a sci-fi guise
The second season follows on directly from the monumental twist that the silo’s bunker company is not the only one, but that there are numerous other silos – a total of 50 of them! And The plot of the new episodes is divided into two storieswhich couldn’t be more different.
Juliette meets the erratic survivor Solo (Steve Zahn) in the ruins of silo number 17 and is chased from one exciting set piece to the next. Things are no less exciting in the silo we know (number 18), where political intrigues want to nip the seeds of rebellion and resisters are in constant danger.
So is Silo Season 2 worth it? The scripts, the interesting characters and the visual imposing are also at the usual high level in the new episodes, but showrunner Graham Yost (Justified) and his writing staff don’t just copy the winning formula from season 1.
Previously, the series introduced us to the bunker society with all its mechanisms and mysteries in the form of a detective story. Season 2 now shakes the foundation that has been built and places previously established characters on two sides of a conflict that could lead to war, while cleverly expanding on previous character developments.
The new episodes create parallel and tonally different storylines an enormous tension. Because the slowly escalating political thriller in Silo 18 unleashes enormous urgency for Juliette’s survival story. Can she find her way back home before her home silo is destroyed by a revolution? However, one thing remains the same in season 2: at the end of each episode, you’ll want to binge the next one.
