Judo: Tara Babulfath on site in Valencia during the weather chaos: “Very tragic”

The severe floods in eastern Spain have affected many people. According to the news agency Reuters, there are 158 deaths on Friday morning and several people are still missing.

– There is a tense atmosphere and there are many who go to the most affected areas to help clean up the streets, says Olympic bronze medalist Tara Babulfath, who is on the spot in Valencia, one of the most affected regions.

“We’ve been lucky where we live”

Babulfath is four kilometers from the areas of the city which, according to her, have been worst affected.

– We have been lucky where we live.

She says that messages appear on the phone from time to time.

– A warning triangle appears and everyone’s phones beep. I have experienced that before in other countries, for other reasons. The people here really stick together.

Affected teammates

Do you know how it has gone for your training companions who are from Spain?

– No one seems to have been injured. But they know people who have disappeared. In training, you shut everything out and I think it’s nice for those who are affected to come to training and just let it all go.
