Ebba Andersson refuses to do like the other national team colleagues

Ebba Andersson always goes her own way.
The last WC season was a success with double gold.
Now the Swede refuses to do like his national team colleagues.

The ski season is fast approaching and this winter there will be full focus on the World Ski Championships in Trondheim 2025. The Tour de Ski is already in the danger zone for many of the world’s best cross-country skiers and now comes the next competition that will suffer.

Swedes are noobs

The World Cup in Falun is usually the highlight of the season for Swedish skiers, but there is a huge problem this time. The World Cup weekend on Swedish soil is decided on February 14-16 and it is only ten days before the WC in Trondheim.

Therefore, many blue-and-yellow national team skiers choose to skip Falun and instead go with the national ski team on the last high-altitude camp before the championship.
– It sucks to have to stand over it, admits the four-time world champion Jonna Sundling for TT.
– I was asked which place I like to compete in the most. And I say Falun. It’s a really nice competition venue and I have great memories from there. It is of course very boring.

Andersson’s words

Also the sprint specialist Lynn Svahn and many others choose to forego the World Cup weekend in Falun.
– Same for me. It’s boring as hell, but at the same time it will open up so it feels fun to see so many people who wouldn’t have had the chance to compete otherwise. But Falun is one of the highlights of the year, so it feels sad not to be there myself, she tells the news agency.

But Ebba Andersson and Moa Ilar are two national team skaters who refuse to do like all the other colleagues.
– Right now the plan is to be there. I love competing in Falun and I think it gives me a nice boost before the WC. My plan is that the World Cup weekend fits in very well and I hope it stays that way, it would be crazy fun to be able to compete on home ground, says Ilar to Radiosporten.
– I have heard that Ebba is keen to compete as well, so I hope we will be some who will drive.

Ahead of the latest ski WC in 2023, Ebba Andersson chose to also forgo the last high-altitude camp in order to instead sharpen her form at home. Then it ended in double WC gold for the Swede, who is aiming for a similar success in February 2025.
– I have no plans for a high-altitude camp. I plan for Falun, says Andersson to TT.
– It is a shame and sad that it has to be like this. But if it is the case that uploading at high altitude is a prerequisite for getting in your very best shape, the consequence is unfortunately that World Cup competitions end up in a pinch.
