  • Man found dead after mountain rescue operation

    A man has been found dead after a rescue operation at the Ultevi nature reserve in Jokkmokk.

    Police received an alert that the man was in distress during the night of Wednesday.

    Only on Wednesday morning could a rescue operation be initiated due to severe weather conditions.

    When found, he was dead.

    Relatives have been notified.

    The police do not suspect any crime in connection with the death.

  • Germany closes Iran consulate after execution

    Germany closes Iran’s three consulates in protest against the execution of German-Iranian citizen Jamshid Sharmahd.

    The announcement came from German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Thursday, and followed the German Foreign Ministry summoning the Iranian envoy to deliver a formal protest on Wednesday.

    – We have repeatedly and unequivocally stated to Tehran that an execution of a German citizen will have serious consequences, said Baerbock.

    The current consulates are located in Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg.

    According to his family, Sharmahd was kidnapped from the United Arab Emirates to Iran in 2020, where he was sentenced to death on charges of leading a group that Iran says carried out acts of terrorism against a mosque in Iran. The trial is criticized for being summary, and regime critic Sharmahd had long been wanted by Iran’s regime.

  • Finland wants to freeze public service funding

    The Government of Finland has submitted a bill to the Riksdag regarding amendments to the Act on the State Television and Radio Fund. The change would mean freezing the index that annually increases the public service company EPN’s funding.

    If the proposal becomes reality, it would mean that the grants between 2025–2027 will stand still. Without the proposed change, EPN’s grant would have increased by around €16 million next year, €31 million the year after and €47 million in 2027.

    The government has mobilized more than 1,200 people from, among other things, the Ministry of Defense to help with the rescue work.

    It is the biggest flood disaster recorded in Spain since 1973, when 300 people died.

    Liseberg has been exposed to a data breach, reports Gothenburg Post.

    Guests’ personal information may have been leaked. Liseberg has therefore sent out an email to guests who stayed at the park’s hotel.

    “The personal data that may have been leaked are: name, e-mail address, phone number, address, company name and length of stay,” the email says, reports the newspaper.

    Lisberg has reported the data breach to the police and urges guests to pay attention to mailings signed by Liseberg.

    “Do not click on any suspicious links and do not share sensitive information such as payment card details”.

    Five people have been killed in a rocket attack in Israel’s Metula, near the border with Lebanon, several Israeli media reports.

    In southern and eastern Lebanon, at least eight people have been killed in Israeli attacks.

    The attack at Metula is one of the deadliest on the Israeli side in the fighting against Hezbollah.

    According to Israeli media, the victims are an Israeli and four people with foreign citizenship. Another person has been seriously injured.

    Residents of Metula, which was hit hard by Hezbollah’s rocket fire in the past year, evacuated as early as October 2023. The only ones left are agricultural workers and security services, AP writes.

    A 25-year-old Swedish citizen has been detained in Denmark on suspicion of attempted murder, reports the news agency Ritzau. He is suspected of having traveled to Denmark to commit a contract killing and to have tried to kill an unnamed person, according to Danish TV2.

    According to the prosecutor, this must have happened sometime between Monday and Wednesday. The man was arrested on Wednesday in Copenhagen and later that day a 19-year-old Danish citizen was also arrested.

    The delivery of the firearm was delayed and therefore the planned murder could not be carried out, according to the prosecutor.

    The 19-year-old is suspected of aiding and abetting.

  • Northvolt’s threat – opens to Chinese owners

    The battery company Northvolt was originally started as an alternative that would make Europe independent of China’s battery industry.

    Now Dagens Industri writes that Northvolt has said in conversations with its current financiers that they are already discussing investments with Chinese players.

    The play is perceived according to DI as a threat to put pressure on the negotiations for a rescue package.

  • The woman suspected of murder is extradited – will not be charged

    Although the 25-year-old woman who is suspected of the bag murder on Värmdö is to be extradited from the United States, the prosecutor will not include her in the indictment that is planned to be filed soon, reports P4 Stockholm.

    Prosecutor Cecilia Tepper tells the channel that she expects the decision to be appealed and may therefore take longer.
