According to Günther Jauch, there are several reasons why it has become more difficult to crack the million over time. He first emphasizes that it is initially difficult for the candidates to even get to the final question. But most people also have to overcome major hurdles on the way there.
Jauch speaks of one “Fully comprehensive mentality”which is not only prevalent in quiz shows. Because Jauch complains that most candidates always want to be on the safe side and although they have the right intuition in answering the question, they want to protect themselves by using a joker. A joker that could perhaps still be used is thus wasted.

On the other hand, with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Use the Joker when you really need itsaid Jauch. Because many candidates think they don’t want to use a joker in the first 5 questions. Maybe they want to defend their honor or save the Joker. But that doesn’t change the result: Anyone who answers a question incorrectly is out.
That’s why Jauch advises using the joker when you have no idea – If in doubt, ask the first question. Jauch believes that as a candidate for him you have to use your resources in a targeted manner. Whoever succeeds in doing this will, with a bit of luck, also get the million.
