GTA 6 will be one of the groundbreaking titles of the coming years for many gamers. Many fans are already looking forward to the new title from Rockstar Games and can’t wait for the release. A former GTA developer says that everything used to be different.
What kind of stress is Rockstar under? GTA 5 has sold across multiple console generations and set new standards in video games. Many players and experts therefore have high expectations of GTA 6.
There are also many details that Rockstar has to deal with:
Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar developer who worked on several GTA titles, also believes that GTA 6 will be something special. He thinks that GTA 6 will sell for over 10 years and have no competition. He is also the one who is now revealing that the release of the earlier GTA parts was completely different.

GTA releases used to be more relaxed
How did a release like this used to work? Vermeij thought back to the “good old days” and remembered the launch of GTA San Andreas, which took place around 20 years ago. Back then, releases were different and the stress had already subsided 6 weeks before the actual launch.
Obbe Vermeij worked at Rockstar from 1995 to 2009. He experienced the release of GTA Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, GTA 4, The Lost and Damned and Chinatown Wars as Technical Director. Today he is the owner of GabberGames and Learnia Inc.
The turning point at which the team’s stress fell away was when the DVD was produced. That was about 6 weeks before the actual release.
From this point on, the developers couldn’t have much influence, which is why they were much more relaxed at launch than they would be today.
You can read his English-language tweet here:
According to this, most developers even had vacation during the release and were thinking about the next project. There would be no day one patches and players wouldn’t have known too much about the game because there was no information apart from a few trailers.
According to Vermeij, leaks would hardly have been a problem in the past. GTA 6, on the other hand, has to contend with many data holes through which a lot of information has already come to light. As a result, we already know more about the game than Rockstar would like.
