10.17 pm: Gas leak in Soest stopped
There was a gas leak on Genestetlaan in Soest for hours today. The leak occurred around 4:45 p.m. and was closed at 9:30 p.m. According to a press photographer, something went wrong during work. The firefighters present had to be relieved by a new team.
7.47 pm: Fireworks powder removed from home
The police investigated this evening at an apartment complex on Twellosebeeklaan in Utrecht. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) was also present. Ultimately, the service removed fireworks powder from a home. Residents were briefly not allowed to enter the building, but can now return to their homes. It is not known whether anyone has been arrested.
4.04 pm: Man becomes unwell in Domtoren
A man became unwell this afternoon in the Dom Tower. Because this happened at a height of 94 meters, the emergency services responded en masse. In the end the situation turned out not to be too bad. The man eventually walked down himself, the spokesperson said. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
3 p.m.: Van burns out in Kanaleneiland
A van caught fire in the Kanaleneiland district of Utrecht. This afternoon around 3 p.m. the van caught fire on Rooseveltlaan. It is not known how the fire started. The fire brigade arrived quickly and was able to extinguish the fire without too much difficulty. The police are investigating the fire.
2.03 pm: Witness to De Meern home burglary wanted
Two people broke into a house on Wiericke in De Meern yesterday. They stole jewelry, the police reported. The resident came home around noon when the burglars were still in her house. They then fled and managed to escape.
The police are looking for witnesses and in particular a person who was on the Wiericke with a blue cargo bike around 12 noon. She cycled in the direction of IJsselmonde street, where the burglars also fled. Police believe this person may have seen something important.
10.56 am: Jaarbeurs shelter briefly evacuated after heater work
The refugee shelter in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht was briefly evacuated this morning after smoke was released during work on the stove. About a hundred people had to leave the building on Graadt van Roggenweg. Everyone is now allowed to enter again, after measurements by the fire brigade showed that there was no longer any danger.
08.30: Traffic jam due to a stopped telecrane near Driebergen
A telecrane stopped on the A12 near Driebergen this morning due to cooling problems. As a result, one lane was closed and traffic was stuck in traffic for about 45 minutes. Around 8:30 a.m. a technician had patched up the crane and the road was open again. The file has now disappeared.
6:33 am: Nearly 100 fat bikers in A&E after an accident in a week
In the first week of this month, 96 people in the Netherlands who were riding a fat bike as a driver or passenger ended up in the emergency department (ED) after an accident. This is reported by VeiligheidNL. The 82 emergency departments in the Netherlands recorded the number of bicycle accidents and the age of the victims for a week at the beginning of October.
6.22 am: Flat fire in Amersfoort
The fire brigade in Amersfoort was called out last night due to a house fire on Marie Vierdagstraat. Residents heard a loud bang, after which flames rose from the balcony.
The police suspect that fireworks are the cause of the fire and are investigating whether it was rowdiness or a targeted action. Witnesses are urged to come forward. For example, a white van reportedly drove away from the house around the time of the explosion. “That may be a coincidence, but there may be a connection with the incident,” said a police spokesperson.
