On July 1, several new laws entered into force.
Among other things, it was allowed for grandparents to be on parental leave, requirements for plastic caps on cups to be attached and forbidden to deny the holocaust.
Another law that came into effect was that of making it easier for landlords to evict criminals. A tenant who has committed a crime can now be evicted from their home.

It is required in order to be evicted according to the new law
According to P4 Jönköping, a single serious crime such as robbery or serious assault, or several less serious crimes such as drug offenses or vandalism, can be enough for a tenant to be evicted.
The channel has spoken to Martin Thornellsecurity manager at a municipal housing company in Jönköping.
– It has to be a crime that causes a clear deterioration of the safety of those in the immediate environment, quite simply.
Thornell tells P4 that he has already spied on several different apartments where it is suspected that someone who is a criminal may be living.

No need to be sentenced to be homeless
According to the new law, however, one does not have to be convicted of any crime in order to be evicted. It is enough to rent an apartment to someone who has committed a crime to be evicted yourself.
– Then it is the person on the lease who is targeted in this legislation and that person does not have to have committed the crimes personally, but it is enough that they have let their apartment to someone who commits crimes, Thornell tells the channel.

The criticism: “Innocent people are punished”
The law has received criticism. Already last summer, when it came into force, voices were raised from the Tenants’ Association, who believed that the new law could fail.

Bris and the Children’s Ombudsman have also been critical of the new law.
