The number of people hospitalized locally with COVID-19 continues to climb.
The Brant Community Healthcare System on Wednesday reported 23 COVID patients in its care, with two in critical care.
That’s up from 18 who were hospitalized on Monday.
Of the patients admitted to hospital, 128 have been unvaccinated for a rate of 632.05 per 100,000 people, while 176 have been vaccinated for a rate of 157.84/100,000. In ICUs, 16 people were unvaccinated for a rate of 77.88/100,000 and 18 were fully vaccinated for rate of 16.14/100,000.
The Brant County Health Unit reported 25 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, however, that number likely is underreported because of limited testing.
Since the pandemic began in March of 2020, 9,255 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Brantford-Brant, with 8,918 of those resulting in recovered cases.
There are currently 270 active cases in the community but that number is also likely underreported.
There have been 67 COVID-19 deaths reported since the start of the pandemic.
There have been 325,239 total doses of the vaccine administered at vaccination clinics in Brantford-Brant. In Brantford-Brant, 84.28 per cent of residents, aged five and older, have received one dose of the vaccine while 81.12 per cent have received two or more doses.

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic and Grand Erie district school boards are reporting the percentage of absences for students and staff at each of their schools. As of Monday, there were 34 active cases on Six Nations and a total of 62 people are in self-isolation.
One person from Six Nations is currently hospitalized with the virus.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,594 confirmed COVID cases on Six Nations.
Exact numbers are not available but 55 per cent of the population has received a dose of the vaccination, with 51 per cent completing their vaccination series.
There have been 24 COVID-19 deaths on Six Nations of the Grand River since the start of the pandemic two years ago.
On Wednesday, Public Health Ontario reported 1,332 people in hospital. Of those in hospital, 182 are in intensive care, the highest that number has been since mid-March.
The province reported 3,833 new cases over the past 24 hours although that number is likely underreported due to limited access to testing.
There were 13 new COVID-19 deaths reported on Wednesday and there have been 12,583 deaths in the province since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.
