The KD top: People applying for citizenship must recognize Israel

The EU summit believes that people who apply for Swedish citizenship must recognize Israel’s right to exist and “in addition intend to embrace the Judeo-Christian values on which Swedish democracy rests”.

– We are in a situation where we have a Jewish minority who feel that they are incredibly exposed, threatened and hated. We see how these pro-Palestinian demonstrations advance the positions, says Alice Teodorescu Måwe to SVT Nyheter.

She refers to the fact that the same requirement has been introduced for citizenship in a state in Germany.

– Many of those who engage in “Hamas-hugging” in these demonstrations also do not support other values that we take for granted in a Swedish context, she says.

“Distributes citizenship easily”

If the proposal were to become a reality, could political opponents in the future introduce additional demands that you do not support?

– The problem with the Swedish process is that we have had no requirements at all, which has meant that we have handed out Swedish citizenship very easily.

The issue is not anchored with the party

Alice Teodorescu Måwe is part of a working group within KD that will propose measures to strengthen the community. According to Teodorescu Måwe, the work will start in a few weeks.

– It is an issue that I pursue and will pursue internally as well, she says.

“The proposal that Alice proposes is up to the working group to decide on. After that, the party takes a position on what the working group proposes,” writes Arvid Janson, press officer for KD in an email to SVT.

Johan Forssell (M): Has not informed the government

Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M) writes in a text message that the Christian Democrats have not raised the issue with the government and that the government has already begun work on stricter requirements for citizenship.

“But it is only after a person has been in Sweden for several years that the question of citizenship can become relevant. We need to tackle anti-democratic, anti-Semitic and racist notions earlier than that”

The government has also started an investigation into “lack of character” in order to be able to deport people who “do not respect Swedish society and the values that we have in common”, writes Forssell.
