Please note, some Nintendo Switch owners are experiencing battery issues after the latest system update. Version 19.0.0 reportedly prevents the console from sleeping properly, even leading to overheating.

On October 7, 2024, Nintendo released version 19.0.0 of the operating system for the Switch, which is supposed to bring better stability. However, there appear to be some small problems. Indeed, many user reports indicate that the hybrid console is becoming unusually hot, either when in use or when idle. So be careful!

Nintendo Switch: overheating and battery problems

This is not the only problem faced by players. Several are reporting that the update has had a negative impact on the battery life of their Nintendo Switch. Many of these complaints emerged in a thread started by Reddit user Yukar1n, who noted that his console “stays warm on standby” after patch 19.0.0 arrived, even though he didn’t play it for several hours. This seems to imply that the device continues to operate even when the screen is off, indicating that it is not entering sleep mode properly. And he is far from being the only one in this situation!

Many people have noted that their console’s battery life has been very poor since the update, with the console dying after just a few days, including without being used. Some also report that they can no longer download and install games from Nintendo eShop. These issues affect both the normal Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch OLED. If this is also your case, know that you are not alone!

Although reports are growing, it is not confirmed if and how they were caused by the update to version 19.0.0. For some, earlier versions of the firmware would have caused similar problems with the battery. Nintendo has yet to make a public comment on this matter.
