  • UN: Record high levels of greenhouse gases

Levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere reached record levels in 2023, the UN warns.

“Another year. Another record. This should set alarm bells ringing for policy makers. We are clearly off track when it comes to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement,” says Celeste Saulo, head of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

  • Proposal: Foot shackles and body search at Sis home

Foot shackles and expanded possibilities for body searches are proposed for monitoring children and young people in Sis homes.

The investigator also suggests new possibilities for room inspections.

Social Services Minister Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (M) has now accepted the investigator’s proposal, which above all aims to make the environment at the National Institutions Board’s (SiS) special youth home safer and more secure.

One suggestion is a new option to use a foot shackle. For children and young people sentenced to closed youth care, electronic monitoring must be able to be used to check that they are not outside the area without permission, especially if they have been placed in a home with a lower security level.

The changes to the law are proposed to enter into force on 1 January 2026.

  • Fully developed fire in parking garage

There is a fire in a car in a parking garage in Tyresö, south of Stockholm. The cause is unclear and other cars are at risk of smoke damage.

    – It is likely that other cars may be damaged by smoke. There is definitely a risk of spreading to other cars. The car is far in, so it can be difficult to get there, says Henrik Dewoon-Thorén, officer on duty at the rescue service.

  • Many cars completely destroyed by fire

A total of 40 cars in three garages in Växjö were affected by the fire, reports P4 Kronoberg.

    – Then I don’t know if all the cars have caught fire or if some are just smoke damaged, says the emergency services’ alarm and line operator in Småland.

The fires broke out at 02.30 on Monday night.

    – I interpret it as that there has been a fire in three separate garages close to each other, says police spokesperson Katarina Rusin.

An arson report will be drawn up.

    – We suspect that an unknown perpetrator has started the fires. No one is deprived of liberty. A technical investigation may be relevant. Right now it’s too hot, says Rusin.

  • 205 crime victims after explosions – teenagers charged

Several bombings occurred in southwest Gothenburg at the beginning of the year and now two teenagers have been charged as suspects in the crimes.

It concerns a 19-year-old who is charged with three bombings in Västra Frölunda and another teenager who is charged with aiding and abetting two of the crimes.

    – Our opinion is that these acts have been carried out in a gang environment. The detonations have been powerful and it is only coincidence that no one has died or been seriously injured, says investigator Stefan Olofsson in a statement.

Among other things, an explosion occurred at an entrance to a terraced house in Västra Frölunda on January 6. Two months later, on March 6, two more explosions occurred in nearby properties. There, some of the residents were also physically injured.

The common denominator of both blasts was a 19-year-old man.

    – What stands out and really needs to be emphasized is the large number of plaintiffs who have been injured or exposed to significant risks. In total, it is about 205 crime victims who have been affected in various ways by these acts of violence, says Stefan Olofsson in a statement.

A foul-smelling substance has been discovered at SVT’s main entrance in Stockholm. The place is cordoned off, reports SVT.

The measure is described by SVT’s security manager as “extremely serious”. An employee describes the smell as acid flow.

According to the reception at SVT, it is about manure that has been dumped on the site.

    – It smells like hell, says an employee to the channel.

The incident is being investigated and it is currently unclear what is behind it.

    – It is too early to say anything about it. We continue to look at it, says Camilla Josephsson.

    – There are two cars involved, where one has run into the other from behind and which overturned into a ditch. The other car has driven into a guardrail, says an emergency operator at Medelpad’s rescue service.

  • Norway’s Prime Minister: The Gaza war is barbaric

Norway’s Prime Minister sharply criticizes Israel’s warfare in Gaza.

The square language of big politics must not hide what is going on in Gaza, emphasizes Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) in an interview with the newspaper VG.

    – It’s about people, despair, fear and hopelessness, he says.

    – The cost to civilians is so enormous. When credible sources such as the UN, WHO, the Red Cross, the Red Crescent and healthcare professionals we have known for years sound the alarm – then it is serious.

Støre recalls international humanitarian law and its laws – and puts the diplomatic language aside:

    – When they are broken like in Gaza, then we are in barbarism.

Norway’s government has repeatedly criticized Israel’s warfare in Gaza. In May, Norway recognized the state of Palestine, prompting Israel to immediately recall its ambassador to Oslo.

Norway has also received injured and seriously ill people from the war-torn strip of land.

  • Protective stop at school: “Urgent danger to life”

The Swedish Teachers’ Union has requested a protective stop for teaching in a building at Värmlandsbro school in Säffle, reports NWT.

Something in the building’s indoor environment is making the school children sick. The children’s and education committee in the municipality had overturned the principal’s decision to close the building, which is why the protective stop is now being requested.

    – We see that there is an acute danger to life and health to be on the premises. That is why we are carrying out the protection stop, says Peter Nordin, chief protection officer.

With the protective stop, staff are not allowed to stay in the premises and thus the teaching is stopped.

  • Ships have sunk – fuel is leaking

    Photo: Björn Larsson Rosvall/TT

A ship has sunk at a quay in Gothenburg during Monday morning, according to the rescue service.

The ship is supposed to be 25 meters long and is now on the bottom.

No one should have been on board, according to the owner.

The rescue service also confirms that fuel is leaking from the boat, which is probably diesel.

    – It is the priority to investigate what it is and what we can do about it, says the emergency services’ alarm operator Johan Karlsson.

The police have not been ordered to the scene and no crime is suspected.

  • Man refueled – was robbed in the car

A man who was refueling in Malmö has been hit on his car, the police write.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday evening, the perpetrators struck. Two people appeared on a moped and threatened the man with a sharp object. They took his car and left the scene.

No one has been arrested, but the police have filed a robbery report.

The affected man has not suffered any physical injuries.

  • Hair spray bottles ignited: “Burn properly”

Someone has set fire to several bottles of hair spray outside an entrance at Östermalm.

The emergency services had to go out to put out the fire.

    – It has burned properly but it is now out, says Marie Nordahl, at Stockholm’s fire brigade.

The fire took off just outside an entrance, but no property has caught fire and no one has been physically injured.

    – There are shops on the ground floor, so we check that there is no smoke damage. Otherwise switched off, says Marie Nordahl.
