Lots of criticism for new update

How does the community rate the upcoming patch? Various players have gathered under the developers’ post on X to discuss the quality of the update. First the more critical posts:

  • Silaf misses ESO’s old content update structure (via X): “So instead of a DLC like Clockwork City, we get this…”
  • xTalinHawkx writes on This is mostly just PVP stuff and lacks quite a bit of the real content that players want. That means: Do better in the future.”
  • Colorado9494 the innovations don’t go far enough (via X): “Sorry guys, that’s not enough. We need more significant changes to PvP.”
  • Alex points out the fine print (via X): “The * is very important. The companions do not end up in the game for free with the update, as has always been the case before, they are in the crown shop. Wouldn’t doubt it if you had to pay 3,000 crowns for them.”
  • But there are also some positive comments about the upcoming patch:

  • Eric Scho writes on X: “Two new companions, that’s great.”
  • Lala Calamari explains on X: “I’m really looking forward to the PvP update.”
  • Redd has a message on X for someone else: “7 NEW BG CARDS 🫢. @Lord_ZelePvP: Will you complain less now?”
  • How does MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz rate the update and the reactions? In recent interviews I have repeatedly asked how the new Elder Scrolls Online update structure is being received by the community.

After all, instead of a complex but paid story DLC, players now “only” get a free update that focuses on individual areas of the MMORPG. The answer from those I spoke to each time was that they had received a lot of positive feedback about the change.

While there was a very successful feature for PvE fans in the fourth quarter of last year with the Endless Archive, the last update from 2024 will be aimed at PvP fans and thus at a – based on experience – significantly smaller target group. In addition, the big highlight for PvE fans, the two new companions, are not part of the free content. In my opinion, it was inevitable that this would cause dissatisfaction.

Another innovation from Update 44 was celebrated by many fans after its announcement, which is actually just a side note in the patch notes – the comeback of the old tutorial in Coldharbour: “This is the best day in my life” – players celebrate the innovation the MMORPG for Elder Scrolls
