Power changing in Lithuania News in brief

In Lithuania, the center-left coalition is about to win the parliamentary elections and oust the current prime minister’s party, the Christian-democratic Homeland Union, according to preliminary results.

The most popular party is the Social Democratic Party, which is gaining 50 seats in the country’s 141-seat parliament.

Leading the Social Democratic Party Vilija Blinkeviciute considers that the election result indicates the Lithuanian people’s desire for change.

The issues leading up to the elections have almost entirely concerned domestic politics, as in foreign policy all parties agree on e.g. continuing support for Ukraine and maintaining defense spending at least at the current level.
