Photovoltaic Alliance: “agrivoltaic added value for Made in Italy development”

Photovoltaic Alliance agrivoltaic added value for Made in Italy development

(Finance) – “Agriculture And renewable they must not be conceived in opposition to each other, as in their development they are configured as complementary and synergistic. Photovoltaics in agricultural areas helps to recover uncultivated land, thus restoring production. Ground-mounted photovoltaics does not produce soil waterproofing, nor any impoverishment of the soil and biodiversity”. This was stated in a note by thePhotovoltaic Alliance.

The Alliance recalls that “the national agricultural area is approx 16.5 million of hectares but only 12.8 million hectares are actually intended for food production (arable land, woody crops, pasture and family gardens) while the remaining 3.5 million hectares of agricultural area are uncultivated or abandoned. In fact, even assuming that all 110-120 GW for which there are connection requests are created, i.e. much more than the 2030 objective, 130-140 thousand hectares would be enough: 0.5% of the overall national surface area and less than 1% of the agricultural area”.

“In light of this picture, a concept clearly emerges: building symbiotic links between agriculture and photovoltaics, through an increasing development ofagrivoltaicwould allow for significant growth in the entire renewables sector by putting the Made in Italy supply chain at the center – continues the note -. However, one cannot think of creating one supply chain from one day to the next and above all you cannot create a supply chain if the rules of the game are constantly changing. Without a long-term plan it is difficult to determine the conditions for the necessary investments that they generate request And specialization paths starting from high schools. Investing in agrivoltaics means creating around 150 thousand new jobs, primarily by enhancing local skills”.

“There transition energy in fact, it is built starting from the territories and agrivoltaics represents the ideal paradigm of this process. We therefore trust that the government will systematically and structurally focus on the already existing heritage, which lies in the combination of the variety of agricultural crops present in our country and the technical know-how of renewables”, he adds.

“Supporting agrivoltaics would thus enable the activation of a functional driving force for the growth of Made in Italy, as hoped for by the Prime Minister Georgie Melons on the occasion of the anniversary of two years of government. The renewables sector, driven by the driving effect of agrivoltaics, would in fact account for at least 30% in proportion to the latest maneuver launched by the executive. Putting agriculture, Made in Italy and photovoltaics is the path to take for Italy to establish itself and consolidate itself as a locomotive for the energy transition in the European panorama and in global scenarios”, concludes the Photovoltaic Alliance.
