For the first time in their careers, Sotkamo’s Jymy Iivari Vihanto and Tampere’s Manse PP’s Saaga-Angelia Raudaso were chosen as baseball players of the year for the first time in their careers.
Manse PP’s Saga-Angelia Raudasojan22, a fairytale season culminated in the Baseball Player of the Year award. In addition to the first Finnish championship of her career, the three-time forward queen had already been selected as the most valuable player in the playoffs.
The men’s prize was won by Sotkamo’s Jymy koppari Iivari Vihanto. Jymy’s 21-year-old graduate is known for his fierce throwing arm, which has attracted international attention in baseball as well.
The Game Manager of the Year awards also went to the champion teams. The awards came as a Superpesis debutant who piloted the Manse women to the champion Manu Vartia and in his first season at Sotkamon Jymy celebrated the first championship of his career as a manager Iiro Haimi.
The player who led Lapua Virkiä’s outdoor game was chosen as the women’s player of the year Anni Heikkiläfor whom the award is the first of his career. On the men’s side Juha Puhtimäki won the award for the second time in his career. For the next season, the 39-year-old striker will move from Manse to Helsinki’s Puna-Musti Ykköspesis team.
Sotkamon Jymyn was chosen as the newcomer of the year in Superpesis Veeti Koko and Maila-Jussie of Seinäjoki, who won the women’s WC bronze Matilda Scarf.
Already since the 1993 season, the players have chosen the best indoor and outdoor player among themselves. Jymy of Sotkamo received the golden flipper for the best outfield player Hannes Pekkinen and Mansen Sylvi Pellonperä. Joensuu’s Mailan was voted as the best inside player, i.e. the recipient of the golden bat Niko Korhonen and Mansen Anna Ala-Kauhaluma.
